Cat Vaccination

Vaccination has revolutionised control of infectious disease in our pets. It is essential that all pets are adequately vaccinated to help protect the pet population as a whole. Responsible pet care requires kittens to be given their initial course of vaccinations, but this cannot protect them for the rest of their lives. Adult cats require regular vaccination to maintain immunity against disease.

Protect Your Cat with Vaccination: A Guide from Paddington Vet

Cats at home

At Paddington Vet, we believe proactive care is key to keeping your feline friend healthy and happy. Vaccination is a simple yet essential step to protect your cat from serious diseases that can affect their long-term well-being.

Kittens are born with temporary immunity from their mother’s milk, but this protection fades after a few weeks, leaving them vulnerable to infection. Vaccinations help build and maintain their immunity, shielding them from harmful illnesses.

Recommended Vaccination Schedule

Kittens

  • First vaccination at 6-8 weeks of age

  • Second vaccination 3-4 weeks later

  • Third vaccination at 14-16 weeks of age

Cat

Adult Cats

  • Annual booster vaccinations to maintain protection against diseases

Diseases We Vaccinate Against

01.

Feline Panleukopenia (Feline Enteritis)

A highly contagious disease with a high mortality rate, especially in kittens. It causes severe vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain.

02.

Feline Respiratory Disease (Cat Flu)

Caused by feline herpesvirus and calicivirus, it leads to sneezing, coughing, nasal discharge, and eye inflammation. While rarely fatal, it can cause ongoing health issues.

03.

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)

Often compared to HIV in humans, FIV weakens a cat’s immune system, making them more prone to secondary infections. It's primarily spread through bites from infected cats.

Post-Vaccination Care

After vaccination, your cat might experience mild side effects like slight swelling, reduced appetite, or fatigue. Ensure they have plenty of water, food, and a quiet place to rest. If symptoms persist or seem severe, contact us immediately.
